Toddler tantrums…binge eating…mild anxiety depression… psychosis risk syndrome… and temper dysregulation disorder… The so-called ‘experts’ of the mind (I’m trying hard not to choke) are working on their latest Bible, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and they’re pretty much making every known eccentricity or behavior that’s not in the minority into some form of mental disease. The foregoing are all proposed new additions.
Frankly, the way shrinks decide if something is a disorder reminds me of how they decided if you were a witch during the dark ages. Only in the dark ages they were more logical.
As I’ve said before, the psycho-shrinks won’t stop until everyone is classified as having some kind of mental illness. The shrinks have been up to this for years, trying to put a diagnoses onto every single variant of human behavior, for one reason, and one reason only: greed.
You see, a diagnosis means money. Insurance will pay for diagnoses. So, once it’s official, once it’s in the book, the BIBLE, the DSM whatever, the shrinks can get paid for it, either in cash, by scaring you into thinking something’s wrong with you, or by the insurance company or medicare, whatever.
Hey…you move your leg a bit there…hmmm…how can I get paid for a rocking leg…how about…Restless leg syndrome? Cha-ching! Hmm…baby cries a bit…insurance won’t pay for collick…I know! “Toddler tantrum disorder”…cha-ching! Get a little down in the winter…hmmm…cabin fever…claim denied…Ha! How about…”seasonal affective disorder”!! Cha ching!!!
And worst of all…THE most heinous CRIME committed on boys in history…ADHD!! Cash cow! Cash cow! Cha ching!!!
What’s next? Left-handed? How about…’deviant object manipulation disorder’? What about the fact that you like Jessica Simpson? Then we’ve got ‘blonds with big breasts obsessive compulsive disorder…sounds better, though as an acronym: BBBOCD! I like Asian women myself, so I must have ‘Asian fixation obsession’…can you see my eyes rolling!
Are you a liberal? Well then, you must have ‘governmentomania’! What, a tea partier? You’ve got governmentaphobia! Didn’t you know?
Fortunately, some psychiatrists are trying to do something about it:
“It’s leaking into normality. It is shrinking the pool of what is normal to a puddle,” said Til Wykes of the Institute of Psychiatry at Kings College London…”Technically, with the classification of so many new disorders, we will all have disorders,” they said in a joint statement. “This may lead to the belief that many more of us ‘need’ drugs to treat our ‘conditions’ — (and) many of these drugs will have unpleasant or dangerous side effects.”
Yes, Mr. (Miss?) Wykes, you’ve spoken for a lot of American boys… the money these shrinks have made, and the damage to the psyches of American boys they’ve done, the justification for all these school systems to openly discriminate against boys… just makes me want to scream…
Americans, wake up!! Stop paying attention to these loonies! Please!
